You know you’ve got a problem when you find yourself making excuses for your children.
- Parents should not apologize for their children; while it is normal for children to disobey, the child should be expected to make his own apologies.
- Parents can be apologetic (making excuses) or defensive. If you’ve delegated responsiblity to someone who is trustworthy, the burden of proof should be on the child. Be careful to whom you delegate authority.
- While godly parents understand their children better than anyone else, disobedient parents greatly misunderstand their children.
- Don’t expect perfection. Don’t be surprised to be disobedient children, but do expect them to set things right.
