Life Verses

While sorting through my music files I came across a former flute recital I had performed. I had forgotten about the scripture verse I put at the bottom of the program: “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in Thy presence is fullness of joy: at Thy right hand there are pleasures evermore.” Psalm 16:11
Listening to music is one of life’s many pleasures. That [...]

A 6th grade student of mine chose to write a critical essay on the topic of loyalty in the Chronicles of Narnia.Since we disussed loyalty in class, I’ve been trying to define loyalty. If loyalty is simply allegiance to someone or some organization, then how is loyalty any different than simple obedience? It’s wrong to [...]

Joseph: Mom, God is in me!
Mom: Where is God in you, Joseph?
Joseph: He’s in my belly.
Mom: Isn’t God supposed to live in our hearts?

Two of our daughters were sick this weekend with the flu. To pass the time, we curled up in dad and mom’s bed and enjoyed a lot of TV.
We watched, with amazement, a biography show on the comparisons of modern day sitcom families verses the sitcoms of the 50’s and 60’s.

I was reading this snippet from Pastor MacArthur’s leadership book, and I thought it sounded appropriate for wives and mothers as well! I’ve heard that running a home is similar to running a small business: it takes a lot of discipline.

Last week I talked to a friend about a child of mine who can be extra bossy and, when he’s away from home, disobedient. After recounting a few recent episodes, she suggested that I remind him of his age and not allow him to speak to adults as if he were their equal (or as [...]

What A Great Idea!

Jamie suggested that I get the boys a CD player. They got this one for Christmas, and they love it! It goes from room to room with them. Some of our favorite CDs are Wee Sing Bible Songs, The Little People, and the Baby Einstein Playdate CD. Reminder if you have toddlers: Make backup CDs!!!

I’m Sorry

It occurs in all relationships. Siblings don’t always get along. Couples disagree. Co-workers argue.  When someone has been wronged we have to deal with it in a godly way. Do we readily apologize in order to restore the relationship?
My thoughts have run with this lately. When we have been wronged, it forever alters our thoughts regarding that person. That’s a bold statement, but hear [...]

My lemon and orange trees had so much fruit on it that I knew it was going to take half a day to pick everything off those trees. I put it off for weeks and then picked it all. The fruit filled four paper grocery bags which went into my garage for another few weeks. I started to feel guilty that all [...]
